Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television journalist, commentator and anchor of NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired by KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. She joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. She was promoted to Washington general correspondent with NBC News two years later. In 1981 began reporting on the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. She was made the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell participated on the TV show Meet the Press and also host of the show. She served as a panelist during the presidential debates in 1988 between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for excellence in journalism. In 2004, The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first reporter to cover White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan as president between 1981 and 1988. Mitchell covered a number of noteworthy stories over time, including the tax reforms, budget reforms and The Iran Contra scandal. She travelled frequently together with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
